Has anyone seen Ycros?

Monday, January 30th, 2006

I thought he was supposed to be back today at work - but he hasn’t called and managers have called me looking for him.

If anyone knows where he is or saw him last just comment on this post.

‘Cryonauts’ Put Assets on Ice

Um…what?

Link: http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot?m=3248

Carl Bialik writes “‘You can’t take it with you. So Arizona resort operator
David Pizer has a plan to come back and get it,’ the Wall Street Journal
reports. Pizer is one of about about 1,000 members of the “cryonics” movement
who plan to put their bodies on ice soon after death so that in the future,
medical advances can save them. A small, wealthy subset of these cryonauts is
exploring ways to leave their money to themselves. ‘With the help of an estate
planner, Mr. Pizer has created legal arrangements for a financial trust that
will manage his roughly $10 million in land and stock holdings until he is
re-animated,’ the Journal reports. ‘Mr. Pizer says that with his money earning
interest while he is frozen, he could wake up in 100 years the richest man in
the world.’”

Well what I mean is… you
get to control the $10M fund… but you also are entitled to your cut… lets
say your cut is 20% of the earnings to be modest…

A well managed fund can
bring in around 10% pa easily… which is $1m. 20% of that which is your cut is
then $200,000 USD a year for sitting around on your ass and watching somone
elses money roll in.

Kruel.org Jabber server-to-server communications are running again

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Kruel.org Jabber server-to-server communications are running after some server diagnostics - this means you can communicate with contacts on other servers.

Just ran the full test suit and everything seems to be in full functional order.

We are back up: Kruel.org Jabber Service

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Hey guys!

The Kruel.org server is now back online! Totally sorry about the downtime. Really, I mean it. Turns out when our managed host fixed the machine, none of the ports for XMPP were opened again (doh!).

The services outage on Kruel.org has caused our admins to review our emergency plans and our maintenance processes.

Thanks for holding out.

Yours,
James W. Dumay

Status: Jabber Service on Kruel.org

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Something very very bad happened to the server (was out of my control), thus the Jabber users of “kruel.org” cannot login at this time. I should have the Jabber server running by this afternoon.

Sorry about the outage. And don’t expect it to happen again.

Cheers!

Using an appearance with Justin Timberlake, the Microsoft chairman debuted a new music service, Urge, to directly compete with the iTunes music store and interface. Urge launches with over 2 million tracks for purchase or as part of an all-you-can eat subscription, an option the iTunes music store doesn’t have. The offering will include exclusive material from MTV.
